Everyone knows that household products are chemistry products, but what is the colloidal part of it – the part where we excel and make a difference? Here are some examples: The detergents in the soap and dishwashing liquid that remove dirt due to their amphiphilic nature. The laundry detergents that must remove dirt but not color from our clothes. The window polish that leaves the surface repellant as a lotus leaf, nature’s own nano material. The car shampoo that foams. The roof paint that doesn’t drip but is thin enough for a smooth application leaving no blisters or cracks. The wall paint that dries to a thin film, but not so fast that it dries in the brush.

Through the use of techniques such as for example tensiometry, ellipsometry and atomic force microscopy we test our hypotheses and move on towards improved processes and products.
